With the current temperatures still being in minus figures, we want to make the residents of Whitwick aware of the responsibility for, and recommended use of, grit bins.

Bins are located through out the village, but we have been made aware of issues with grit bins located on Crusader Close, Templars Way and Parsonwood Hill where the bins are now empty.

We would like to reiterate to the pubic that the rock salt and grit in these bins is to be used for the public roads and public pathways only. If you require grit for the purpose of individual driveways then we ask that you purchase the grit from your local DIY stores or builder merchants for your own personal use. If there is no grit left in the bins to be used on roads, this puts road users and pedestrians at risk, as well as meaning residents may not be able to get cars out of their street for work, or hospital appointments, or allow emergency services access.

Yellow bins are maintained and refilled by Leicestershire County Council. For more information on their services, you can click the link here.

Please note that LCC fill their grit bins at the beginning of the winter season, and then they are re-filled on a schedule, and as and when resources allow. They do not refill grit bins on demand. Empty bins can be reported to them on the above link.

Green bins are maintained and refilled by Whitwick Parish Council. Please contact us if your local green grit bin is empty.

Snow guidance on clearing your path or driveway from the Met Office can be found if you click this link.

Thank you for your help and assistance. Hopefully some warmer weather will be back with us soon.
