Community Grants
Parish Council Grant Schemes
Grant Awarding Policy
The Parish Council would like to support activities and causes which benefit the parish of Whitwick. A grant is any payment made by the Parish Council for the specific purpose for which it is claimed and for the benefit of the community.
Whitwick Parish Council provides small grants of up to £250 to support local community groups – please see the Financial Information page of this website for details of the scheme and a short application form.
Eligibility
Local groups and organisations are eligible to apply provided the money is to be used for the direct benefit of the parish or part of the parish and to some or all of its inhabitants. Each application will be considered on its merits and any grant or donation will be commensurate with the expenditure to be incurred. Evidence of the extent of services provided within the parish may be sought. When determining applications, the Council will have regard to section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972 except where an alternative regulation is more appropriate.
Individuals, businesses, statutory groups or political parties are NOT eligible for grant funding.
Conditions
- Multiple applications within a 12-month period will not normally be considered.
- The Parish Council reserves the right to reclaim any grant not being used for the purpose specified on the application form. The Parish Clerk will be allowed to verify that the monies have been spent accordingly.
- Proper evidence of actual or estimated expenditure must be supplied to the Parish Council prior to the payment of any grant. If the Parish Council is not satisfied with the arrangements it reserves the right to request a refund of monies awarded.
- Grants cannot be awarded after the relevant project or event has been completed.
Expectation of the applicant
- The successful applicant will be required to agree to the following conditions:
- To keep the Council informed of progress with the work or activity and to notify it if there are any problems achieving agreed objectives.
- To complete the work or activity for which a grant has been given within six months, unless agreed with the Council that an extension will be allowed.
- To confirm that the money has been spent in accordance with the grant application.
- To repay any unspent grant within eight months of the grant being made.
