The new waste and recycling collection system will begin in November this year, following approval at the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday 28 July.
It’s going to take a bit of time to introduce the new system across the entire district, so North West Leicestershire District Council will be launching it in phases of roughly 12,500 households at a time.
Starting with households on a Wednesday collection in Coalville, Whitwick, New Swannington, Hugglescote and Thringstone.
The new system will see the current red boxes and yellow and blue bags replaced by two wheeled bins, which was the overwhelming choice by residents in the 2024 survey.
You can find out if your household is in the first phase by checking your postcode at my.nwleics.gov.uk
Letters will be sent to all households in the phase one area soon with lots more information about when the new bins will be delivered, how to make the switch, what to do with your old containers and how to start recycling food waste.
If you’re not in the first phase, NWLDC will be in touch in the coming months to let you know when the system will be coming to your area.
