Administration Assistant (25 hrs)

*Deputy Clerk circa £31k pro-rata, £16.02 per hour

*Administration Assistant circa £25k pro-rata, £13.06 per hour

Whitwick Parish Council is going through a period of change, and we are now looking to appoint two key posts to support our new Parish Clerk and complete the staff team. Both roles offer attractive terms and conditions and a workplace pension.

Whitwick is a relatively new council, created in 2011, which serves an electorate of nearly 7,000 people, making it one of the largest in Leicestershire. With a precept of £311,000, the parish council has significant spending power (the 3rd largest in North West Leicestershire) and provides a range of facilities, services, and support to its parishioners, with a significant ability to improve the quality of life in the parish.

These two roles will complete the core staff team, with a focus on good governance, operational delivery, and support for the council’s elected members.

The role of Deputy Clerk carries specific responsibilities, as well as deputising and supporting the Clerk as required. We are looking for someone who will work collaboratively with councillors, partners and the public to deliver the council’s priorities, services, and projects. You will need to be proactive and innovative, with excellent communication skills. Whilst experience of the sector is of benefit, a full induction and training package will be offered to the successful candidate, so if you have the right skills, attitude, and experiences to meet the essential criteria we invite you to apply.

The role of Administration Assistant is the second of these two key posts. Although no previous experience of local authority administration is required, excellent organisational and administrative skills are essential. In addition, the ability to be responsive and flexible in the face of competing demands for your time will enable you to excel in this role. Your administrative support is of equal importance to the operational side of the council, as it is to the proper democratic decision making and governance side.

Both roles require occasional evening and weekend working, though this will be greater for the Deputy Clerk role. If you are a dynamic individual, with the skills, attitude, and experience required to work in, and support, a councillor led organisation then we invite you to apply to join this ambitious team, working at the heart of the Parish Council.

The continued period of change at the council means that during the first 6 months in post you will need to be flexible in terms of your workplace, with a sizeable element of home working potentially being required during building works. In addition, we will be reviewing pay and pension provision during this period.

Applicants should submit a completed application form with a covering email to clerk@whitwickpc.org, or post hard copy to the address on the application form.  For an informal chat about the post(s) please contact the clerk.

Closing date: Friday 28th June 2024.

Interviews will be held on 8th July (Deputy Clerk) and 9th July (Administration Officer) 2024.
