Derek Howe 2013 Half Mast Flag 2

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the death of former Councillor, Derek Howe.

Derek served as one of Whitwick’s District Councillors for 4 decades, he was part of the steering group which brought about the formation of Whitwick Parish Council and he was a Parish Councillor for the first 8 years of its existence.

Derek was the first resident to be honoured with the title of ‘Honorary Freeman of the Parish of Whitwick’ in June 2013 and he had the good of Whitwick at heart with all he did.

Chair Sue Colledge said – “Beyond all of his achievements for the area, I considered him a dear friend.  Rest peacefully now Derek, reunited with your beloved Molly”.

The people of Whitwick remember all that you have done for the community and grieve your loss alongside your loved ones to whom we express our sincerest condolences at this difficult time.

The Parish flag flies at half mast today, Monday 15th January 2024, and will again on the day of Derek’s funeral, to recognise his efforts on behalf of the village and people of Whitwick.
